Curated Autumn Essentials for Readers
Welcome to my fall guide curated with one type of person in mind: people who love to read…and who would like their life to match the vibe of their favorite books. I’ve pulled together all the cozy things: my favorite spots to read, bookish outfit ideas, small accessories that add character, and a few ways to use books as decor since they deserve to be seen and not just shelved. I’ve also gathered a few simple recipes, an easy craft, and a list of my go-to movies and shows in case you - like me - might still hanker for autumnal atmosphere wrapped in a literary feeling even when taking a break from reading. This is nothing overcomplicated. Just a thoughtful guide to making the most of fall as a reader. So grab your coziest blanket, make something warm to sip, and let’s get into this autumn guide for fellow bibliophiles.

AUTUMNAL ACTIVITIES
If you take one thing away from any of my suggestions, please let it be this one thing and that is to take your book and find a quiet spot to read outside. Reading outside has innumerable benefits, from natural light being easier on your eyes to giving you a fully immersive and grounding experience of feeling a breeze blowing while leaves fall around you. I also find that I remember a book better if I’ve taken it somewhere special to read. Somehow, that experience of reading creates an emotional attachment to the book.
FALL OUTFIT IDEAS
And if you’re reading outside, you’ll want to be dressed warmly in thick cozy sweaters. Something I love to do is find clothes that match the season, and in turn match my autumnal book choices for this time of year. The Etsy shop Keeping Creatures made this chunky, cozy sweater with soft sleeves that happens to match the book Falling Leaves, which has a lovely fall aesthetic on the cover..
I recently found this ghost sweater at Maurice’s which is also warm enough for reading outside on chilly mornings. And finding a book - like Sheets - to match is no challenge when there are graphic novels with adorable covers.
FALL ACCESSORIES
Adding your personality with accessories, such as with bags or bag charms, is also a fun way to bring fall into your daily fashion choices.
FALL HOME DECOR
For home decor, we love to find creative ways to use books as decor. Pairing a book with stuffies is one such way. Dracula, Frankenstein, or a Witch are simple ways to pair a character with a book.
Books themselves can also be decor. This year, I had great luck in finding used books that matched by theme of finding book spines that would make an orange and purple pattern while on display.
FALL RECIPES
Tying in books with baked treats is the ultimate immersive experience. This is something you can do with friends or your kids.
I decided to make Apple Butter Turnovers Drizzled with Caramel Icing, an idea inspired by the Orchard in L.M. Montgomery's "The Story Girl" and Apple Muffs in LM Alcott's "Little Women" 13:30
If you’re seeking something a bit more simple, try Harney Son’s tea with Trader Joe’s maple marshmallows and Aldi cookies. And a book, of course.
CRAFTS & ENTERTAINMENT
And then continuing in the simple theme, I find Punch Needle craft kits to be a perfect option for crafting while watching your favorite cozy fall movies.
